LSN and LSW Music Takes on Washington DC

Story by Ella Snead – Staff Reporter

April 9th through April 13th, the LSN and LSW choir, orchestra, and marching band took a trip to Washington, D.C.

They toured the National Mall and got to see most of the monuments, memorials, and museums. On Friday, the Orchestra performed at Union Station, Saturday, the Marching Band Marched in the annual Cherry Blossom Parade, and then later that evening, the choirs sang at a catholic mass.

While they weren’t performing, they went to a variety of museums, such as the Air and Space Museum, the Hershorn Modern Art Museum, the Spy Museum, and many more. They also went on several tours around D.C. These tours included the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, WW2 Memorial, the Capitol, and the Arlington National Cemetery.

“My favorite part of the trip was getting to visit all of the memorials, specifically the Martin Luther King Memorial, and see a lot of his quotes being displayed on the walls,” Kaylei Coombs, sophomore, said.

The days of the trip were jam-packed with lots to do, but it was so worth it to see these important monuments.

When the students weren’t being tourists, they were in performance mode.

“The process of getting to march in the parade was very hectic, but it was very fun. It’s very fast-paced, and the nerves before marching are just the best thing,” Coombs said.

The band students had a very busy and chaotic schedule, but still went out there and represented LSR7 music on national television.

LSN and LSW music students got to see lots of amazing sights around Washington, DC, as well as perform in many different spaces and show off the Lee’s Summit school music departments.
