Tennis Talk

Girls tennis started off with a bang this season with the varsity girls winning their first two matches against Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs. After last year, dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the constantly switching schedules, the girls are happy to be back to playing normally again, especially the seniors.
“I’m just grateful to be able to play my last year and happy to be on varsity,” Eleanor Cok, senior, said.
The returning seniors are now getting the chance to be the top players of the team and act as role models for the underclassmen. While this is fun, it can be stressful at times.
“In a sense [being a senior] also adds pressure to my performance and the season because I want to be successful and do well my final year. But overall, it’s been great to help lead the younger girls and be able to meet new underclassmen,” Cok said.
Unfortunately, the team lost a recent game against Lee’s Summit West, with a final score of 4-5. Despite the occasional loss, the tennis team stays close as ever.
“I love the sport tennis so much, and being able to play it with some of my closest friends is what brings me back each season,” Cok said.
The girl’s tennis team is next scheduled to play a tournament on September 17 against Blue Springs at Santa Fe Park.
