Winter Window Painting Project

On November 16, art students from all throughout the district participated in a painting project in downtown Lee’s Summit.

   “We started this last year, as part of the real-world learning initiative that we do in the district where we are trying to get kids out of the classroom and have them experience actual career opportunities,” Colby Mathews, art teacher, said.

   During the day on Thursday, art students from all three high schools, Summit Lakes, East Trails, and Pleasant Lee Middle School had the opportunity to paint winter scenes on the windows of several businesses in downtown Lee’s Summit. 

   “Sometimes they’re themed with the businesses but most of them are generic winter scenes in these businesses’ windows to keep up during the holidays,” Mathews said. 

   In comparison to last year, this year’s project was a big hit.

   “We went from having six businesses last year, to 25 this year,” Mathews said.

  The 5 businesses that LSN students were in charge of painting were all located along Douglas St.

   “[We did] the fire station, Lifestyle Transformations, a wellness center, then further south on Douglas is there’s a salon called Envy Salon, and then it’s right next door to Embers where you can make the candles,” Mathews said.
