On Tuesday, April 18th at 7 pm students are recognized at the annual Academic Awards Ceremony for their hard work throughout the school year. Students are invited to this ceremony by earning a semester weighted GPA of 4.0 or above for the previous fall or spring, or for receiving special departmental awards and honors or local scholarships. This is a very special event that many look forward to each year.
There is a lot of preparation that goes into this ceremony because there are many students involved.
“There are many moving parts to prepare for the event! A team of teachers and staff work for over a month prior to the event to organize invitations the program the script and physical awards that students receive that evening. During most years over 450 students are invited to the event, so most of our work goes into organizing the event to honor these students and their families,” Sarah Courtney, history teacher, said.
Students enjoy being able to be with their friends and celebrate their accomplishments they have earned throughout the year.
“During the ceremony, the rest of the planning team and I are involved in setting up beforehand, presenting awards, organizing presenters, and the background work of making sure students are where they need to be when they need to be there,” Courtney said.
Each year this event gets bigger as LSN continues to grow the amount of students to recognize.
“In addition to the students and the presenters, we have hundreds of supportive friends and family members who attend to recognize the students. Several years ago we had to move the event from the PAC to the field house because the event is so well attended. It is a great night for honoring the academic accomplishments of our fantastic students at North,” Courtney said.
This is an important night for many students that everyone looks forward to, and a great way to honor our students at LSN!!!
