Winter Guard: On the March

Story & Photo by Kay Haas – Staff Reporter

Now that Winter is in full swing, so is the Winter guard. Winter Guard is known as Color Guard for the first season. For the first half of the year, they perform at football games with the marching band during halftime. For the second season, they are known as Winter Guard and focus more on their show and competitions.

Winter Guard is coached by Paige Brown and Kerri Craven. Brown is the Head Coach and Craven is the Assistant Coach. These coaches have led their team to victories more than once.

“Paige Brown is the Head Coach and has been here for 8 years. I’m the Assistant Coach and have been here for 6 years,” Craven said.

A big part of the Winter Guard season is their show. This year, their show, “Believe They Were Wrong”, was about the negative impacts of bullying.

To prepare for the show and their upcoming competitions they practice twice a week and show up for hours on the weekend to perfect their routines.

One of the biggest competitions for Winter Guard is the State Championships in April. In 2021 and in 2022, the team won State, they are hoping for a similar outcome this year.
