Changes at the mall following recent violence

  In the past few weeks, Independence Center has experienced several fights and shootings. This is causing mixed reactions from people. Many are avoiding the mall after these events. 

   “I am not much of a mall shopper. I am more of an Amazon shopper.  I don’t like that I have to invest a lot of time to get to the store I want to see. For me, I don’t think about it because I don’t want to shop at the mall anyway. That said, my teenage kids are not allowed to go now,” Tracy Wrisinger, math teacher, said. 

   In response to the shootings, the mall has hired more security to ensure the safety of guests. Another precaution being taken is a new curfew. Minors without adult supervision will not be allowed in the mall after 3 p.m. This will be in place every day of the week.  

   “Whenever I have gone to the mall I have felt safe. People wear masks and a lot of cops and security has been enforced especially recently. I believe it is a very good place, but maybe some people are not as good,” Abigail Wilson, sophomore, said. 

   With these new safety precautions in place, it is important to follow the guidelines Independence Center has put out. The city and police department have put these rules in place to control the violence. Only time will tell what effects these rules will have.
