The Growth of Lacrosse at Lee’s Summit North
Story by Isabelle Flood – Editor-in-Chief
Lacrosse has grown at LSN over the past few years and has become incredibly popular. While it is not yet large enough to be a MSHSAA-sanctioned sport, it has gained a lot of attention from students. Lacrosse is currently classified as a club at LSN, but practices and plays games just like any other sports team.
“We’ve had so many new players join, and it’s cool to see them fall in love with the sport like I did freshman year,” Addison Bleckinger, senior, said.
As they have grown in popularity, they have also had a successful season so far.
“We’re growing a lot as a team, and we’ve won our last couple of games,” Bleckinger said.
The team dynamic is also a big part of what has expanded the program and made other students want to join.
“We are really close as a team, we hang out a lot outside of practice. We try to keep a positive atmosphere during practice and games, we’ve always got a speaker blasting,” Bleckinger said.
Not only is the atmosphere for lacrosse incredibly positive at LSN, but the program is always welcoming to new students wanting to try something new.
“Definitely try out lacrosse, it is so fun! Especially here at North, it is super laid back, and the team is super welcoming,” Bleckinger said.
The growth of lacrosse in high school sports will be something everyone should pay attention to in the coming years, especially if it becomes an official MSHSAA sport. Regardless of what lacrosse is classified as, LSN students and staff are supporting the athletes as they grow the sport they love.
