Cheer Takes First Place at State

Story by Abby Langle – Editor-in-Chief

The Lee’s Summit North Cheer Team has been preparing for their big state cheer competition that happened this past weekend. The Cheer team traveled to Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to compete in the State competition.

Preparing for state takes a lot of time. You have to make sure your routines are perfect and you are ready to take the floor. Ashely Forte is the Cheer team’s head coach and she tells us what they did to prepare.

“We practiced 5 days a week and lifted 2-3 times a week,” Forte said.

The team came out on top winning first place in their class.

The team has come a long way since last year and put in lots of work.

“Well, last year I took a year off from coaching so I was not a part of LSN cheer but from what the girls have told me we have practiced way more for competitions,” Forte said.

This team showed that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.

“My message to the team: To my girls, my words won’t ever be able to convey my appreciation for all of you. I am so thankful I get to be your coach and watch you grow every day. This year has been far from easy but watching you all push through and work hard for what you want was nothing short of amazing. The passion, perseverance, integrity and drive you all have shown has been a coach’s dream. It has been an honor coaching you all. One chance. One dream. One team. CONGRATULATIONS! Y’ALL DID IT!”
